Christchurch Adventure Park

About CAP

The Christchurch Adventure Park is set on 358 private hectares in Christchurch’s Port Hills. The park is open year-round and has a chairlift specifically designed for mountain bikes giving access to a mix of machine and hand-built MTB trails.  The views over the Canterbury Plains from the lift and on the ride down are stunning. The beginners tracks give an awesome introduction to downhill mountain biking with big fun berms and features to warm up on and from here there is plenty to get the stoke levels up for all abilities. There's a large cafe at the base area for a re-fuel, the deck is the place to be on a sunny day with local Cassel & Sons beer. The base area also has a great shop where you can rent a downhill-specific bike or buy an extra bits of gear you might need. For those not keen on biking or looking for new thrills there's a dual zip-line tour to race through the valley on. You can also get the heart rate up by riding or walking the uphill track to the top.

Terrain and Weather Tip

Check the Park Status before you head up. The lift can be subject to wind and some trails may be closed or open later in the day when they're a bit wet.
If you're new to downhill plan to ride the same trail 2 or 3 times, the body will warm up and you'll be amazed at your progression as your confidence builds.
Trails on the valley side can be split at the mid-point, e.g. you can ride the green trail  'Donuts' then if you're feeling up for it try the blue trail 'Handle the Jandle' for the 2nd half of your ride.

Chill Tips

The Downhill Apprentice Package is a great way to get started on downhill MTB, you'll learn heaps and get to try out a downhill specific bike.
Take something warm to wear on the lift, the valley is sheltered but it can get pretty cold on the way up.
